How did your education at New England College prepare you for what you are doing today?
My education at New England College prepared me for this position with all the classes I completed with my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration, in which I graduated with summa cum laude. This degree really helped me to see how a hospital system runs and what key elements are needed to have the basis to achieve success in all areas of a healthcare system. Once graduating I went on to get my certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt professional and have a national certification as a Billing and Coding Specialist. I am currently working on my PMPⓇ (Project Management Professional) certification.
What aspects of your time as a New England College student continue to resonate with you since graduation?
Time management was essential in taking classes online and doing well in them. I use time management every day in my job, making sure projects continue to move through the system and tasks are handled in an appropriate amount of time up until completion.
What advice/insight do you have for New England College alumni and students interested in your career field?
My advice/insight for New England College alumni and students interested in my career field would be to always keep learning. My degree was very challenging but very rewarding in the end. The money is great in this field and I continue to learn all the time. Also, large companies love degrees but they also want certifications to back up your degree. So my advice to students wanting to go into Healthcare Administration is once you graduate also be working on certification such as Lean Six Sigma, and another great one is PMP® if you’re interested in Project Management in the health field. There are many certifications you can pair to a Healthcare Administration degree depending on what route you want to take in the healthcare field. Best of luck to you and always keep learning.
